In a brief ruling, Justice Rahman Oshodi acknowledged the submissions from both parties and granted the defense’s request for adjournment to study the new evidence. He emphasized the importance of ensuring fairness in the trial process.

Emefiele’s counsel, Olalekan Ojo, highlighted the need for adequate time to review the additional proof of evidence, expressing concern that the defense had only received the document on the same day. He stressed the principle that justice rushed is justice denied and urged the court to grant the adjournment for thorough examination.

Adeyinka Kotoye (SAN), the second defense counsel, echoed Ojo’s sentiments, emphasizing the necessity for the defense to have sufficient opportunity to analyze the new evidence. He criticized the practice of conducting investigations while a case is already ongoing in court, urging the court to prioritize justice and fairness.

The adjournment underscores the importance of ensuring a fair trial and allowing both parties adequate time to prepare their cases.
