According to reports, Adegoke, popularly known as Ariya, accused the suspects of repeatedly stealing from his farm, including valuable produce such as cocoa pods, kola nuts, and plantains, as well as his motorcycle.
A local source disclosed:
“Adegoke had endured continuous theft for a long time. He managed to apprehend two of the four individuals he caught on his farm. Unfortunately, in the process of beating them, one died, sparking communal tensions.”
Adegoke was arrested and transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department in Akure, while police continue to investigate the matter.
The state Police Public Relations Officer, Funmi Odunlami, explained that the farmer claimed the individuals were thieves, but the suspects maintained they were merely on the farm to gather snails.
Odunlami noted:
“It was Adegoke’s wife who initially reported the suspected theft to him. The farmer rushed to confront the individuals, leading to the unfortunate incident.”
The case has heightened tensions in the community, with authorities working to maintain peace while investigations unfold.
