Enzo Fernández Agrees Personal Terms With Manchester City

Argentina international Enzo Fernandez has reportedly reached a verbal agreement on personal terms with Manchester City over a potential move from Chelsea.

According to Ireporter Online, transfer expert Fabrizio Romano disclosed on Saturday, August 29, that Fernandez and Manchester City have agreed on the personal terms of a possible transfer.

However, the deal is yet to reach the club-to-club negotiation stage, with Manchester City yet to submit an official bid for the 25-year-old midfielder.

The two Premier League clubs are expected to open discussions soon, while Chelsea will determine the amount it would demand before considering Fernandez’s departure from Stamford Bridge.

Chelsea had previously placed a valuation of about £120 million on the midfielder and expected him to remain with the club after Manchester City failed to make an offer before its self-imposed deadline in mid-August.

Despite this, City have maintained their interest in Fernandez, with discussions involving the player’s representatives continuing as the summer transfer window approaches its conclusion.

The uncertainty surrounding his future has also raised doubts over his availability for Chelsea’s Premier League fixture this weekend.

Chelsea signed Fernandez from Benfica in January 2023 for a British-record transfer fee at the time. Since joining the London club, the Argentine has developed into an important member of the squad and has also taken on the role of vice-captain.

Manchester City manager Enzo Maresca could reportedly have an influence on the proposed transfer, having previously worked with Fernandez during his time at Chelsea.

Fernandez has attracted significant interest throughout the year, particularly after Chelsea failed to secure Champions League football. Real Madrid had also monitored his situation earlier in the summer, but Manchester City’s pursuit has now emerged as the most serious.

City are keen to strengthen their midfield as the club continues to reshape that area of the squad, while Fernandez remains under contract with Chelsea until 2032.

Chelsea are understood to be unwilling to sanction the midfielder’s departure unless Manchester City meets their valuation and the club can secure an appropriate replacement before the transfer window closes.
