Aondoakaa emphasized that resolving the issue of insecurity is paramount, as it directly impacts citizens’ ability to sustain themselves through agriculture.
Highlighting the plight of farmers unable to tend to their crops due to insecurity, Aondoakaa underscored the consequential impact on food production and availability in the country.
He remarked, “Nigerians possess the capacity to feed themselves; however, the prevailing insecurity prevents farmers from cultivating their lands effectively. The resulting hunger stems from this fundamental challenge.”
Expressing concern over the disruption of agricultural activities in key food-producing regions like Jigawa, Kebbi, Sokoto, Kaduna, Niger, and Benue, Aondoakaa stressed the urgency of addressing insecurity to ensure a robust agricultural sector and bumper harvests.
Furthermore, Aondoakaa addressed the proposal for state police, suggesting that if implemented, they should be insulated from political interference to focus solely on combating crime and enhancing security.
Reflecting on past efforts during President Yar’Adua’s administration to introduce state policing, Aondoakaa emphasized the importance of delineating the roles and responsibilities of state police, with a clear exclusion from political activities.
As Nigeria grapples with multifaceted challenges, Aondoakaa’s insights shed light on the critical intersection between security and food security, underscoring the need for concerted efforts to address insecurity and bolster agricultural productivity.
