FAAN Shuts Down KFC At Lagos Airport Over Discrimination Against Former Ogun Governor’s Son

The closure was confirmed through a statement released by FAAN’s Director of Public Affairs and Consumer Protection, Obiageli Orah, on Thursday.
The statement, titled ‘FAAN shuts down KFC outlet at MMIA,’ emphasized that the shutdown was in response to the outlet’s infringement of the Lagos State law on People with Special Needs, particularly referencing Part C, Section 55 of the General Provisions on Discrimination.
This law prohibits discrimination against individuals based on their physical or mental disabilities.
The decision to close the KFC outlet followed a social media report from a Passenger with Reduced Mobility (PRM), who detailed experiencing discriminatory treatment at the airport branch of KFC.
FAAN promptly responded to the incident, reflecting its commitment to upholding legal standards and safeguarding the rights of all passengers.
According to the statement, FAAN’s Managing Director/Chief Executive, Mrs. Olubunmi Kuku, intervened swiftly by deploying a management team to investigate the allegation.
Based on the findings, FAAN shut down the KFC facility at the MMA where the incident occurred. The authority instructed KFC management to issue a written apology to the affected PRM and to prominently display a policy statement of non-discrimination at their facility in MMIA before resuming operations.
FAAN expressed its apologies to the affected Passenger with Reduced Mobility and assured all airport users of its dedication to protecting the rights of every passenger.
The victim, Adebola Daniel, son of former Ogun State Governor, Gbenga Daniel, shared his experience at the KFC outlet in a series of tweets, describing it as “the worst sort of public humiliation” he had ever endured.
