Emmanuel Ajah, chairman of Ivo Local Government, expressed his deep shock over the incident in a statement released on Sunday. Ajah condemned the killings, describing them as a heinous act and assuring the community of the local government’s commitment to safeguarding the lives and properties of residents.
To address the security situation, an emergency meeting was held with key stakeholders, including military personnel, police, the Department of State Services (DSS), community leaders, and representatives from local organizations. The meeting focused on strategies to prevent further violence and ensure peace in the region.
Ajah’s statement reads:
“It is with sadness that I, Hon. Chief Ajah Emmanuel Ogbonna, executive chairman of Ivo Local Government Area, received news of the brutal killing of three of my people who went to their farmland for farming activities. Regrettably, this evil act happened to a father and his two sons.
“Alongside the Executive Governor of Ebonyi State, we are fully committed to protecting the lives and properties of our people. Although this sudden attack was unexpected, we are resolute in our duty to safeguard the community.”
Ajah revealed that he has not rested since the tragic news broke and is working with security agencies to find lasting solutions to the security issues affecting the community.
The emergency meeting involved the Divisional Police Office of Ivo, the DSS director, the army commander, various community chairpersons, and youth leaders, along with executives from the Ivo Community Development Union. During the meeting, they discussed several approaches to address the attack responsibly.
Ajah also commended the community for maintaining calm and urged residents to remain vigilant and support security efforts.
“I commiserate with the Amaeze community over this irreplaceable loss of three lives in a single day to marauding herdsmen. This is unacceptable, and I pledge that the government will ensure justice is served,” he stated.
Confirming the incident, Ebonyi State Police Command spokesperson Joshua Ukandu informed Channels Television that officers are actively conducting operations in the area to locate and apprehend those responsible for this heinous crime.
“The incident has been confirmed, and our officers are working in the area to bring the perpetrators of this atrocity to justice,” Ukandu said.
