FCCPC Drops Criminal Case Against MultiChoice After Peace Deal

According to Ireporter Online, the Federal Competition and Consumer Protection Commission (FCCPC) has officially withdrawn the criminal charges it filed against MultiChoice Nigeria Limited and its top executives following an amicable resolution between both parties.

During a session before Justice James Omotosho of the Federal High Court, counsel to the FCCPC, Daniel Amadi, informed the court that a notice of withdrawal dated August 16 had been submitted, indicating that the dispute had been settled out of court.

“The matter was slated for hearing today, but we have filed a notice of withdrawal as both parties have reached a settlement,” Amadi stated.

Counsel representing MultiChoice, Rolake Akingbola, raised no objection to the withdrawal, leading Justice Omotosho to formally strike out the case.

The development marks the end of a legal standoff between the regulatory body and the entertainment company, which had earlier faced scrutiny over consumer protection issues.
