This development comes on the heels of a previous case in February, where a pastor, Simon Kado, his relative Jesse Simon-Kado, and their driver, Muhammad Isah, were apprehended for similar offenses, trafficking twelve underage children from Nasarawa State to Ogun State.
According to a statement released by the FCT police command, the two female suspects, Dogonyaro and Ojah, were intercepted by operatives at the Kagini Junction in Abuja on April 27, 2024, around 8:00 p.m. Their attempt to transport the five children into the FCT was thwarted by the swift action of the police.
Police Public Relations Officer, SP Josephine Adeh, highlighted that the suspects initially tried to evade arrest but were ultimately captured by alert officers in Abuja.
The rescued children, aged between 6 to 12 years, have been handed over to the state police command in Sokoto for further investigation and eventual reunification with their families.
Commissioner of Police, FCT Command, Benneth C. Igweh, affirmed the commitment of the command to collaborate with authorities in Sokoto State to ensure the safe return of the children to their loved ones. He urged parents and guardians to maintain vigilance and report any suspicious activities promptly.
Emphasizing the FCT Command’s dedication to combating child trafficking and other crimes, Igweh reiterated the priority placed on the safety and security of all residents, especially children.
The arrested suspects are currently in police custody and will face charges in court following the conclusion of investigations. The FCT police command urges residents to stay vigilant and assures continued efforts to safeguard everyone’s safety and security.
