Federal Security Forces Occupy Abuja Square As Protest Organizers Refuse Confinement
Ireporteronline reports that security agencies, including the police and military, have occupied Eagle Square in Abuja ahead of the #EndBadGovernance protest scheduled for August 1, 2024.
The move follows a disagreement between the Inspector-General of Police (IG) and protest organizers over the terms of the demonstration.
The IG proposed confining the protest to specific areas for safety reasons, which the organizers rejected, arguing it infringes on their rights.
Additionally, the Lagos State High Court has restricted protests to two designated locations in Lagos to prevent potential violence and ensure public safety.
The article also highlights widespread security measures and reactions from various stakeholders, including human rights advocates, government officials, and community leaders.
