At 61, Otedola joyfully marked the occasion on Instagram, sharing the Forbes announcement with a caption that simply read, “Interesting,” accompanied by smiley and dollar emojis.
Currently occupying the 20th position on the list, Otedola boasts a net worth of $1.1 billion, contributing to the collective wealth of the 2024 billionaires, which rose to $82.4 billion compared to the previous year’s $81.5 billion. Forbes acknowledges Otedola’s comeback as a factor in this positive trend.
The executive chairman of Geregu Power Plc and former CEO of Forte Oil, Otedola’s diverse business portfolio spans the energy, power generation, real estate, and shipping sectors. Despite facing fierce competition from multinational oil companies, his ventures have maintained a prominent role in Nigeria’s energy landscape.
This resurgence comes after Otedola’s last appearance on the Forbes Africa list in 2017. Among the Nigerian billionaires featured, Aliko Dangote retains the top spot as Africa’s wealthiest, boasting a net worth of $13.1 billion. Meanwhile, Mike Adenuga, owner of Globacom and other enterprises, secures the fifth position with a net worth of $6.9 billion. Otedola’s return marks a triumphant comeback for the seasoned entrepreneur on the continent’s billionaire stage.
