FG Collaborates With Hunters And Vigilantes To Enhance School Security

In response to the alarming rate of attacks on schools across Nigeria, the Federal Government is taking proactive steps to engage hunters and vigilantes in intelligence gathering efforts aimed at curbing insecurity. Iliya outlined a comprehensive strategy that includes aggressive community engagement and sensitization campaigns targeting students, parents, and teachers. She emphasized the importance of involving local communities in security initiatives, highlighting the pivotal role of youths in safeguarding their neighborhoods.

As part of the initiative, states with existing vigilante groups will have their hunters and volunteers trained in security protocols. For states without formal vigilante structures, youth volunteers will be mobilized to protect their communities and assist in intelligence gathering efforts.

The National Orientation Agency (NOA) will also play a crucial role in grassroots outreach and communication. Training manuals will be developed in local dialects to ensure effective communication and engagement with communities across the country.

Iliya further elaborated on the implementation phases of the safe schools national plan, noting that security agencies have already trained their personnel on safe schooling protocols. Additionally, state governments have been requested to identify the most vulnerable schools in their respective regions to tailor interventions accordingly.

The collaborative approach between the Federal Government, security agencies, local communities, and grassroots organizations underscores a concerted effort to address the security challenges facing schools in Nigeria. By harnessing local knowledge and resources, the government aims to enhance security measures and create safer learning environments for students and educators alike.
