In a statement released on its official channels, the FCCPC highlighted the detrimental impact of unchecked price hikes on consumer welfare and economic stability. While acknowledging its lack of direct authority to control prices, the commission reaffirmed its commitment to upholding fair market practices.
According to the FCCPC, practices such as price gouging and conspiracies to manipulate supply violate existing laws and undermine consumer rights. To address these issues, the commission emphasized its readiness to enforce relevant sections of the Federal Competition and Consumer Protection Act (FCCPA) 2018, which prohibits obnoxious trade practices and the exploitation of consumers.
In urging Nigerians to be vigilant, the FCCPC underscored the importance of providing detailed information when reporting unfair trade practices. Consumers are encouraged to furnish comprehensive details, including the nature of the conduct, the location of the perpetrators, and any other relevant information that could aid in investigations.
To facilitate reporting, individuals can reach out to the FCCPC through its contact email: contact@fccpc.gov.ng. By actively engaging in reporting, consumers play a vital role in safeguarding their rights and ensuring a fair marketplace for all.
