Finance Expert’s Reveals: Meta’s Loss $100 Million Amid Glitch That Halted Facebook, Instagram, And Messenger
A recent glitch that caused a global outage of Facebook, Instagram, and Messenger on Tuesday, March 5, reportedly cost Meta, the parent company, approximately $100 million in revenue, according to finance expert Dan Ives……READ ALSO Why Women Shouldn’t Be Splitting Half The Bills With Their Partners – Finance Expert Speaks
Ives, the managing director at New York’s Wedbush Securities, disclosed to DailyMail.com that the outage led to a significant revenue loss for Mark Zuckerberg’s company within the span of two hours.
Meta’s stock price also suffered a decline of 1.5 percent initially, coinciding with the onset of the glitch reports, before further slipping by 1.6 percent. The primary revenue stream for Meta, advertising, was severely impacted during the outage period.
Despite the substantial financial setback, Meta is unlikely to disclose the exact financial toll of the outage, with Ives suggesting that the loss might be below $100 million, which is a negligible fraction of the company’s considerable net worth of approximately $134 billion in 2023.
The outage, attributed to ‘technical issues,’ remains shrouded in mystery, although internal sources at Facebook indicated widespread system malfunctions. Users encountered difficulties logging in, with some suspecting hacking attempts, while Instagram’s News Feed displayed error messages.
Although the glitch was resolved by early afternoon, questions persist regarding the actual cost incurred by the social media conglomerate. While cyberattacks are deemed improbable, technical glitches are not uncommon for platforms managing colossal traffic volumes.
Kerri Lisenbigler, an editor at TheRevOpsTeam, reassured that such outages, while inconvenient, are typically transient and not indicative of serious underlying issues. However, prolonged disruptions could fuel speculation about potential cyber threats.
