Flight Diverts After Power Bank Catches Fire Mid-Air (Video)
A passenger aircraft operated by IndiGo was diverted to Hyderabad after a power bank reportedly caught fire mid-air during a flight from Delhi to Chennai, triggering panic among passengers.
According to reports monitored by Ireporter Online, the incident occurred on October 11 aboard IndiGo Flight 6E 6115, which was travelling on the Delhi-Chennai route when smoke reportedly began emerging from a passenger’s personal electronic device.
The aircraft, an Airbus A321, was subsequently diverted to Rajiv Gandhi International Airport in Hyderabad as a precautionary measure.
Dramatic footage circulating online reportedly shows flames inside an overhead compartment as cabin crew members attempt to extinguish the fire, while frightened passengers can be heard screaming.
Authorities confirmed that the aircraft landed safely in Hyderabad. No injuries or casualties were reported following the incident.
The incident has once again drawn attention to the potential safety risks associated with lithium-ion batteries used in power banks and other portable electronic devices aboard aircraft.
