Former Super Eagles Player Tipped To Replace Peseiro

Super Eagles: Amunike tipped to replace Peseiro

Emmanuel Amunike is considered as the top choice to replace Jose Peseiro as the head coach of the Super Eagles of Nigeria if Peseiro does not meet the set targets at the AFCON. According to OWNGOAL, the 52-year-old coach is the preferred candidate of the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) technical committee for the Super Eagles job if Peseiro fails to guide Nigeria to the Nations Cup final in Ivory Coast.

Peseiro’s current agreement with the NFF runs until the end of the AFCON, prompting the search for a replacement for the embattled Portuguese coach, who has faced challenges in his role with the Eagles.

The plans to hire the former Nigeria national team winger have reportedly been communicated to Sports Minister Senator John Owan Enoh during a recent meeting with respected ex-internationals. The idea of having an indigenous Super Eagles coach appeals to the Sports Minister, and Amunike’s choice has the backing of top NFF officials, except for its President, Ibrahim Gusau, who is still inclined towards a foreign manager for the national team.

Tom Santifiet, the current Zambia coach, is reportedly Gusau’s preferred candidate to replace Peseiro next year, unless the Portuguese manager leads the Super Eagles to the Africa Cup of Nations final.
