Fubara Responds to Allegations in Tinubu’s Broadcast, Criticizes Wike’s Comments
Similanayi Fubara, the suspended governor of Rivers State, has issued a response to the allegations made by President Bola Tinubu in his national broadcast on Tuesday. In the address, Tinubu declared a State of Emergency in Rivers State, suspended Fubara and members of the State House of Assembly for six months, and appointed Vice Admiral Ibokette Ibas (rtd) as the sole administrator of the state……….READ MORE
In a statement signed by his Chief Press Secretary, Nelson Chukwudi, Fubara refuted some of the claims made in the broadcast. He clarified that the Rivers State House of Assembly complex, although demolished, was still under construction with 80% of the work completed.
Fubara also addressed the allegation of being linked to militant threats in the state, stating that he had no involvement in the reported attacks on oil facilities. He emphasized that such incidents were not instigated by him.
Furthermore, Fubara suggested that the tension in Rivers State stemmed from controversial remarks made by Nyesom Wike, the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT). Fubara pointed out that Wike’s comment during a live media interview, in which he dismissed the Ijaw people as a “minority of minorities” and claimed they were not the only ethnic group involved in militancy, triggered a strong backlash. This response came from various stakeholders in the Niger Delta, including the Ijaw National Congress (INC) and militant groups, who even demanded an apology from Wike, which was refused.
Fubara reiterated his administration’s commitment to maintaining peace and security in the state, particularly concerning the protection of oil facilities. He reminded the public of his role in the Presidential Committee on the Protection of Oil Installations and urged for continued vigilance to prevent actions that could destabilize the state or harm Nigeria’s economy.
