Gov Alia ‘Opens Up’ On His Problem With SGF, Akume

During his first media interaction with journalists at the Government House in Makurdi, there were speculations of a crisis between the two due to the Governor’s choice of Chief of Staff and SSG.

Governor Alia emphasized that there is no crisis between him and the SGF, and Akume is not only his leader but also the leader of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in the North Central region.

He further mentioned that plans were in place to welcome Akume back home, but the entire North Central Zone, including the FCT, expressed their desire to be a part of it.

Regarding the leadership of the State Assembly, Governor Alia expressed surprise that some people accused him of choosing it, asserting that he had no involvement in the matter.

He highlighted the renovation of the State House of Assembly and the State Secretariat, both of which were in poor condition, as some of the actions taken since assuming office.

In the area of staff verification and payroll audit, the Governor discovered 2,500 ghost workers, leading to savings of N1.2 billion for the state.

Additionally, he emphasized his commitment to peace-building and the resettlement of Internally Displaced Persons (IDPs) in the state. He also put an end to illegal mining and multiple taxation to create an efficient and effective business environment.

Furthermore, Governor Alia mentioned that he froze all state accounts minutes after taking his oath of office due to attempts to shortchange the state, and some accounts remain frozen while he continues to investigate them.
