Gov. Peter Mbah Extends Wage Award Payments Until New Minimum Wage Is Implemented

Since last December, the governor initiated payments ranging from N10,000 to N25,000 to state workers as part of efforts to mitigate the impact of fuel subsidy removal.

The town hall meeting, attended by various stakeholders including Civil Society Organisations, women’s groups, students, youth, business owners, and transport unions, served as a platform for Governor Mbah to reaffirm his administration’s commitment to workers’ welfare.

Governor Mbah emphasized that his government would continue to prioritize workers’ welfare and implement policies to enhance their well-being. He reiterated the promise to sustain wage awards until the new minimum wage is finalized.

Additionally, Governor Mbah addressed other key areas of focus for his administration. He highlighted initiatives in education, including the establishment of SMART Schools across 260 wards by September 2025. These schools will introduce students to advanced learning tools such as tablets and smart boards, fostering technological literacy.

In the health sector, the governor outlined plans to construct level two Primary Health Centres in all 260 wards to reduce infant and maternal mortality rates. Contracts for 30 health centers have been awarded, with 100 more to follow.

Governor Mbah also discussed efforts to improve electricity supply in the state. Enugu State is working to generate and distribute electricity, leveraging the concurrent status granted by the Federal Government to establish the Enugu State Electricity Commission. This move aims to promote competition in the electricity market and ensure reliable power supply for households and businesses.

Furthermore, the governor pledged to implement programs to provide palliatives for students and sustain the state’s Scholarship Board, demonstrating his administration’s commitment to education and youth empowerment.
