The group’s National Convener, Amb. Solomon Adodo, and the CSO have expressed their astonishment at who has truly undermined Nigeria’s democracy more – Timi Frank or the Senate President. They commend Senator Akpabio for his transparency, diligence, and commitment in fulfilling his responsibilities to the nation.

The CSO expressed frustration over the deliberate misrepresentation of facts aimed at tarnishing the esteemed image of the Senate President in pursuit of ulterior motives.

The group emphasized that the allegations made by Frank and his associates regarding lawmakers being inconsiderate by going on vacation are misguided. They argued that lawmakers have a duty to regularly connect with and consult their constituents.

The group cautioned those individuals who are disguising their intentions under a cloak of deceitful patriotism while attacking the Senate’s integrity due to the non-approval of certain ministerial nominees. They urged these individuals to refrain from inciting tensions and accept that the tenth Senate under Godswill Akpabio will remain committed to transparent governance, fostering trust and confidence in our democratic journey, regardless of who may be affected.

The group stated, “The current hardships faced by Nigerians do not exempt lawmakers from performing their duties. In fact, it is through interaction with their constituents that they can identify the root causes of challenges and address them head-on.”

They clarified that the Senate President’s public announcement of the vacation and statutory allowances is not indicative of insensitivity but rather a display of transparency.

The statement clarified that the Senate President’s words were taken out of context. He was advocating for efforts made by the Senate to ensure senators reach out to their constituents in terms of welfare, not disbursing funds for personal use.

The group criticized those who manipulate facts and inject unnecessary rhetoric to sow discord against leaders, labeling such behavior as shameful.

They challenged those calling for Senator Akpabio’s resignation to come forward and openly state if they are being paid to carry out a malicious agenda for disgruntled politicians. The group advised those dissatisfied with the screening process to engage with security agencies and address their concerns, rather than directing their frustration towards the Senate President.

In conclusion, the statement asserted that accusing a man like Senator Akpabio, who demonstrates immense accountability in his role, of insensitivity is akin to irrationality. The group urged Nigerians to dismiss individuals whose sole contribution to democracy is offering themselves as tools to defame respected individuals and institutions.
