Reports indicate that the APC is citing a Court of Appeal ruling to justify reclaiming control of the councils, while the state government insists the Federal High Court had nullified the elections.

Early Monday, attempts by APC members to take over council secretariats were met with resistance from armed groups, leading to clashes and police intervention in several locations. Gunmen were reportedly seen firing shots in front of the Irewole council secretariat along the Ikire-Ibadan expressway, causing panic among travelers.

Governor Ademola Adeleke has warned of a plot by the opposition to incite chaos ahead of the February 22 local government elections. He vowed that anyone found guilty of orchestrating violence would face severe legal action.

With both parties refusing to back down, Osun residents are left on edge as the battle for local government control escalates.
