Speaking during the swearing-in ceremony of 22 Special Advisers and heads of government agencies in Jos on Monday, Mutfwang minced no words in highlighting the dire economic situation inherited by the current administration led by President Bola Tinubu.

“We find ourselves at a critical crossroads in the history of our nation, and it is my belief that post-election, we set aside politics and focus on governance,” Governor Mutfwang emphasized.

Acknowledging the challenges faced by the Federal Government, despite his differing political affiliation, Mutfwang stressed that the current administration faced a more daunting economic scenario than that of 1999.

Mutfwang criticized Buhari’s administration for leaving behind an economy in shambles, alleging irresponsible fiscal practices such as excessive printing of money and pre-sale of crude oil reserves.

“This administration was bequeathed an economy where rampant printing of currency to the tune of N30 trillion occurred,” Governor Mutfwang lamented. “Additionally, our crude oil reserves were prematurely sold, exacerbating the depreciation of the national currency.”

The dire economic situation, according to Mutfwang, has led to widespread food insecurity, with reports of looting of food warehouses and stores becoming increasingly common nationwide.

In response to these challenges, Governor Mutfwang outlined plans for proactive measures to boost food security, including the establishment of a special agro-processing zone in Barkin Ladi Local Government Area, in partnership with the African Development Bank.

Addressing the newly appointed officials, Mutfwang urged them to collaborate in efforts to reverse the adverse economic conditions prevailing in the state, emphasizing the urgency of the situation and the need for concerted action to alleviate the suffering of the people.

Amidst the economic downturn and rising food prices, the administration remains committed to implementing strategies aimed at ensuring the well-being and prosperity of the people of Plateau State, Governor Mutfwang reiterated.
