for 9 a.m. today, January 27, 2025, aims to address issues of police extortion and unlawful roadblocks across the country. In a public statement, the group encouraged citizens to join their campaign, stating:

“We invite you to join us tomorrow at the force headquarters in Abuja as we initiate a series of mass campaigns aimed at permanently ending police extortions and unlawful roadblocks throughout the nation. #EndPoliceExtortion.”

This call for action follows a recent controversy involving the movement’s convener, Omoyele Sowore, who was summoned by the police for questioning. Sowore had recorded a video during an altercation with police officers in Lagos.

The police’s invitation to Sowore, signed by CP Ibitoye Rufus Alajide, requested his presence at the Force Intelligence Department (FID) in Abuja for an interview today.

Adding to the tension, reports emerged of the Sunday night arrest of one of the protest organizers, Henry Nwodo, in the Ruga-Fulani village of Abuja. Witnesses allege that armed officers assaulted Nwodo, confiscated his phone, and took him away in an unmarked vehicle.

Nwodo’s housemate, Emiola Osifeso, revealed that he was apprehended while purchasing food at a night market. Osifeso suspects that the arrest is tied to the planned protest, as local vigilantes reportedly tipped off the police about Nwodo’s involvement.

Despite Nwodo’s detention, the #EndPoliceExtortion protest is set to proceed as planned, with organizers urging Nigerians to rally against police brutality and extortion.
