Hoodlums Attack House Of Reps Member In Benue Community

Reports indicate that Agbese was engaged in a constituency event during the Easter festivities when the confrontation occurred.

According to an eyewitness account relayed to The Nation, a group of armed youths wielding clubs and knives disrupted the gathering, prompting Agbese’s hasty evacuation by security personnel. Fortunately, he escaped unharmed.

Security operatives swiftly intervened and managed to apprehend some of the assailants.

Although Agbese was unreachable for comment at the time of the report, several notable figures from Ado Local Government condemned the attack, suspecting it to be politically motivated.

An ongoing investigation seeks to unravel the motives behind the assault.

In a separate development, a communal clash erupted in North Bank, a suburb of Makurdi metropolis in Benue State, resulting in tragic fatalities, destruction of property, and injuries to numerous residents.

The conflict, which commenced on Sunday and escalated into Monday, primarily involved tensions between the Tiv and Jukun communities.

Nura Umar, the Commander of a local vigilante group known as Operation Shara (Sweep) in North Bank, disclosed that the casualties included individuals engaged in menial labour, caught amidst the turmoil.

The clash left a trail of devastation, with homes razed and heightened fear gripping the affected area.

Umar recounted, “It’s really bad. Many houses were burnt in Agatashi community at the river bank of old bridge around timber shade and abattoir side. It’s a fight between Jukun and Tiv.”

He further stated, “Two persons selling things on wheelbarrow were victims of the crisis. They were caught and killed. We buried them today. Yesterday, Sunday, they shot two people while in church. They didn’t die; they are in the hospital.”

As of the time of reporting, the state police command had not issued an official statement regarding the crisis.
