How Ambode Stormed Aso Rock Two Weeks After Reuniting With Tinubu

Ambode and Tinubu

Former Lagos State governor, Akinwumi Ambode, visited the Presidential Villa in Abuja on Friday. He had a meeting with President Bola Tinubu, but no details about the meeting were disclosed as Ambode did not address the media afterwards.

Ambode, along with current Lagos State Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu and former governor and Works Minister Babatunde Raji Fashola, recently hosted Tinubu at a reception in Lagos.

The event brought together these key figures who have all been responsible for governing the state at different times, with Sanwo-Olu currently in office.

Ambode had a falling out with the party leadership after he was denied a second term ticket, which paved the way for Sanwo-Olu’s emergence as the party’s flag bearer in 2018 and subsequently as governor.

Following the 2019 elections, Ambode distanced himself from the activities of the All Progressives Congress (APC) at the local level and his loyalists conducted parallel congresses.

Efforts towards reconciliation became public when Sanwo-Olu made a surprise visit to Ambode during an in-house event to celebrate Ambode’s 60th birthday.

Ambode also attended the reception honoring Tinubu, where the latter expressed his appreciation for Ambode’s presence.

There are reports suggesting that Ambode may be considered for a ministerial appointment or be given an APC senatorial ticket if an incumbent senator joins Tinubu’s government.
