How I Escaped Plane Crash – Governor Adeleke Narrates

Gov Ademola Adeleke

Osun State Governor, Ademola Adeleke, shared his harrowing experience after narrowly escaping a plane crash at the Murtala Muhammed International Airport.

According to reports, Adeleke and some of his aides were aboard a private jet owned by his elder brother at the domestic wing of Lagos airport, en route to Abuja on September 5. During the takeoff attempt, the aircraft lost power in both engines, causing a fire on the runway.

Initial speculation suggested that birds had constructed nests in one of the engines, leading to Foreign Object Damage (FOD) and the subsequent engine failure. This high-temperature incident resulted in an explosion.

However, Adeleke refuted claims that the incident was caused by bird nests, emphasizing that bird nests are typically made of straw, not binding wires.

In a statement issued by his spokesperson, Olawale Rasheed, the Osun governor expressed strong suspicions that the two aircraft engines had been tampered with before boarding. He emphasized that the aircraft was well-maintained, equipped with a highly skilled technical crew, and was not an unused platform where birds could build nests.

Contrary to the assertion that bird nests were responsible for the incident, Adeleke highlighted that bird nests are constructed using straw, not binding wires, as was the case in this situation.

The near-fatal incident occurred shortly after boarding and less than two minutes after taxiing on the tarmac. An early warning noise from the engines prompted the pilots to initiate the evacuation of passengers. The entire sequence of events unfolded within five minutes. Preliminary findings from an internal investigation indicated possible sabotage, but both local and international authorities are still probing the incident.

Adeleke further clarified that there were no injuries or visible explosions on the plane.
