According to Ireporter Online, controversial Nigerian singer, Speed Darlington, has revealed that his years living in the United States negatively affected his self-confidence and overall well-being as a Black man.

The entertainer made the disclosure in a recent video shared on social media, where he reflected on his 23-year stay in the U.S., describing the experience as largely unfulfilling. He lamented that rather than personal or financial growth, his time in the country was marked by repeated legal troubles, which he said left him with little to show for his years abroad.

Comparing his life in Nigeria with his experience in the United States, Speed Darlington stated that his major financial successes were achieved after returning home. He noted that the funds used to build his mansion, including its swimming pool, were earned in Nigeria, not abroad.

The singer explained that while he maintains access to the United States and visits occasionally to see family, he no longer wishes to reside there permanently. According to him, American society was not supportive of his mental and emotional health, as he often felt isolated and struggled with confidence during extended stays.

He further stated that social interactions were particularly challenging, explaining that concerns about his accent, self-worth, and societal perception often made him feel inadequate. Speed Darlington argued that Black men in the U.S. are frequently required to overprove themselves before gaining respect, a reality he said he found emotionally draining.

In contrast, he expressed a stronger sense of belonging and recognition in Nigeria, where he believes he is better appreciated and able to thrive both socially and financially. He added that one of his most profitable moments, a highly publicized clash with fellow artiste Portable, occurred in Lagos and contributed significantly to completing his home.

Concluding his remarks, Speed Darlington said he values personal freedom and fulfillment over living in environments where he feels restricted, stressing that despite his long stay in the United States, he did not leave the country with substantial wealth.
