I Didn’t See His Message On Time” — AY Recalls Asake’s 2019 Plea For Help

Nigerian comedian and actor Ayodeji Makun, popularly known as AY Comedian, has recalled an old Instagram message he received from Afrobeats star Asake several years before the singer achieved international fame.

According to Ireporter Online, AY revisited the encounter after attending Asake’s sold-out concert at the Toyota Center in Houston, Texas, during the singer’s “In God We Trust” tour.

Reflecting on Asake’s remarkable rise in the music industry, AY revealed that the singer reached out to him through Instagram in 2019, seeking support for his music. However, the comedian said he did not see the message at the time.

AY explained that he recently remembered the message while reflecting on how far Asake had come since those early days of his career.

The comedian subsequently displayed the old message, in which Asake introduced himself as “Ololade” and appealed to AY to listen to one of his songs and support his musical journey.

In the message, Asake reportedly described the support of a personality like AY as significant to his career and appealed to the comedian to help promote his music.

AY, however, stressed that he was not sharing the old conversation to claim any credit for Asake’s success. He attributed the singer’s achievements to his talent, hard work and God’s grace.

The comedian said watching Asake perform before a large audience in Houston reminded him of the singer’s journey from an upcoming artiste seeking recognition to an internationally celebrated performer.

AY used the experience to encourage people to treat others with kindness and respect, particularly those who approach them while trying to establish themselves.

He noted that individuals seeking opportunities today could potentially become highly celebrated figures in the future, urging people not to look down on others because the future remains unpredictable.

Following the Houston concert, AY revealed that Asake’s management took him backstage, where the singer personally came over to greet him.

The comedian praised Asake for remaining humble despite his remarkable growth in the music industry and described his performance as exceptional.

AY also congratulated the singer, noting that his achievements have brought recognition to Nigeria and Africa while attracting global attention.
