I Was Never Sacked” – Frank Edoho Reveals Truth Behind WWTBM Exit
Media personality Frank Edoho has refuted claims that he was dismissed as the longtime host of Who Wants To Be A Millionaire (WWTBM), explaining that his initial departure was triggered by the withdrawal of the programme’s major sponsor rather than a decision by the show’s producers.
According to Ireporter Online, Edoho made the clarification during a recent appearance on The KK Show, where he recounted the circumstances surrounding his exit from the popular television game show.
The veteran broadcaster recalled beginning his media career at the Federal Radio Corporation of Nigeria before transitioning to television, a move he said significantly increased his public profile.
Edoho, who hosted Who Wants To Be A Millionaire for 13 years from 2004 to 2017, disclosed that the programme was suspended after its longtime sponsor ended financial support following a major regulatory sanction imposed by the Federal Government.
He explained that the financial implications of the penalty made it impossible for the company to continue funding the show, ultimately forcing the programme off the air.
The broadcaster further revealed that when plans emerged to revive the game show with new sponsors, he entered negotiations to become an executive producer and acquire a stake in the programme, believing his years of dedication had made him an integral part of its success.
However, the discussions reportedly failed due to differences during negotiations, leading to speculation after the show was relaunched without him initially appearing as host.
Edoho said some media reports wrongly concluded that he had been removed from the programme, insisting that the claims were inaccurate and stemmed from assumptions made after his absence from the relaunch.
Despite the misunderstanding, he eventually returned to anchor the revived edition of the show after it resumed in 2022 with new sponsors and an increased prize fund, bringing an end to years of speculation surrounding his exit.
