IBEDC Warns Ogun Residents To Steer Clear Of Electrical Poles After Rainstorm

The Ibadan Electricity Distribution Company (IBEDC) has issued a cautionary advisory to residents of Ogun State following a heavy rainstorm that caused significant damage in the area. In a statement delivered by Busolami Tunwase, IBEDC’s lead media relations officer in Ota, Ogun State, the company urged residents to exercise caution and stay away from electrical poles and wires. While confirming the incident to journalists, IBEDC noted that although no lives were lost, the heavy rain resulted in property damage estimated at over N100 million, particularly affecting vehicles.

IBEDC assured the public that its technical team had been dispatched to the affected areas to address the situation. Tunwase emphasized the importance of residents avoiding contact with electrical installations until the cleanup and repair operations are completed to ensure their safety.

In related news from 2023, the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) in Ogun State arrested seventy-seven (77) illegal miners across different locations. This action, as disclosed by David Ojelabi, the Commandant of NSCDC in the state, was part of efforts to curb illegal mining activities. The NSCDC collaborated with the Federal Ministry of Mines and Steel to address the issue, issuing warnings to mining groups against storing explosives in residential areas, especially after the Ibadan explosion attributed to explosives used by illegal miners.
