Iddo Bridge Under Siege! Height Restrictions Spark Fears Of Massive Traffic Netizens React
The Federal Government has announced plans to reinstall height restriction barriers on the Iddo Bridge in Lagos, targeting primarily articulated trucks. This move, aimed at facilitating essential repairs, was disclosed by Mrs. Olukorede Kesha, the Federal Controller of Works in Lagos, during an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) on Saturday……READ MORE
Kesha appealed to motorists, especially truck drivers navigating routes from Apapa to Oyingbo, Carter Bridge, and Ijora, to heed upcoming diversion signs. She emphasized that vehicles exceeding three meters in height would be prohibited from crossing the bridge once the barriers are in place.
“We are reinstating the barriers soon and want to ensure drivers are aware in advance. This will help minimize disruptions,” Kesha explained. She urged drivers to slow down near junctions and follow directions from traffic personnel assigned to manage the flow during this period.
Highlighting the necessity of these restrictions, Kesha noted that structural evaluations identified defects in several spans of the 550-meter bridge. Initial restrictions were imposed on February 2, and the upcoming repairs—focused on three critical spans—are expected to last about six months. The process involves breaking down and recasting damaged sections.
While the first phase will affect heavy vehicles, Kesha indicated that light vehicles might eventually face similar restrictions. She stressed the importance of public cooperation and patience to ensure the successful completion of the repairs.
The Federal Government reiterated its commitment to improving the bridge’s structural integrity and ensuring safer, more efficient transportation for Lagos residents.
