Ikpeazu Told To Resign (SEE WHY)

Chairman of Abia State chapter of the All Progressives Alliance (APGA), Rev. Augustine Ehiemere, has urged the state governor, Dr. Okezie Ikpeazu, to consider resigning from office for his inability to position the state on the path of development or, at least, keep it afloat as it was when he assumed office in 2015.

He said the prevailing poor state of affairs culminating in unpaid salaries and pensions, poor waste management, withdrawal of accreditations of state tertiary institutions, including many unfulfilled promises, have stunted the development of the state.

The opposition party chairman, in a statement made available to The Guardian, yesterday, accused the governor of being overwhelmed by problems he created, which have gone beyond his capacity to manage.

“I advise Ikpeazu to resign honourably. He has done his best and, thus, save the state from further drift, unless he has resolved to ground the state completely before his tenure ends in May 2023.”

Specifically, he lamented that the functional institutions Ikpeazu’s administration inherited have, rather than improve, degenerated, citing the State Polytechnic, the State University Teaching Hospital (ABSUTH), whose accreditations were withdrawn due to many months/years of unpaid workers’ salaries, including those of the state colleges of education and Management Sciences Technology.

According to his statement: “These developments have become even more intriguing when weighed against the fact that even the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) governments in other states of the federation that took office at the same time or even later than the government in Abia, have initiated and completed gigantic multi-billion naira projects and institutions.

“It does appear that under the Ikpeazu-led PDP government in Abia, expectations have been redefined to looting of the people’s commonwealth.

“The most painful part of this sad story is that one would have expected government, in its incapacity and callousness to, at least, maintain the institutions it inherited, since it cannot improve or create any, rather than superintend over their failure and collapse.”

Ikpeazu, has however, announced plans to upgrade the Abia Polytechnic, Aba, College of Education, Arochukwu, and College of Management Sciences, Aba, to full universities.
