I’m Not In Any Competition With Ibrahim Chatta — Kunle Afolayan

According to Ireporter Online, renowned Nigerian filmmaker Kunle Afolayan has dismissed speculations suggesting a rivalry between him and fellow actor and filmmaker Ibrahim Chatta, describing such claims as unfounded and misleading.

Afolayan made the clarification while speaking at the watch party of his latest production, Anikulapo: The Ghoul Awakens, where he stressed that both creatives are united by a shared commitment to preserving and promoting Nigerian culture rather than competing with one another. He explained that their efforts are focused on celebrating heritage, lineage, and cultural identity, noting that initiatives such as the Afri Chatta Resort and Film Studio in Oyo State play a key role in this mission.

The filmmaker highlighted that several notable productions have been filmed at Afri Chatta, further underscoring the collaborative spirit between them. He maintained that there is no rivalry whatsoever, adding that their creative paths are distinct and complementary. Afolayan also revealed that despite multiple invitations extended to Chatta, this would be the first time the actor would be visiting the location, admitting that he too shares responsibility for the delay.

In addition, Afolayan spoke on his selective approach to filmmaking, stating that he prioritises quality and creative integrity over box office earnings. He noted that financial success alone does not drive his decisions, emphasising that artistic value remains paramount in his projects.

The event, which took place in Igbojaye, Oyo State, attracted several prominent Nollywood personalities, including Kiekie, Broda Shaggi, and Gabriel Afolayan, adding to the significance of the occasion.
