Imo Drama Unfolds: Senator Anyanwu Slams Ohakimi Over Abacha Letter Allegations
Former Senator Chris Anyanwu has boldly challenged the former governor of Imo State, Ikedi Ohakim, to produce the alleged letter she supposedly wrote to former military ruler, General Sani Abacha. The former lawmaker from Imo East criticized Ohakim for trying to remain politically relevant by spreading unfounded claims about her.
In a recent interview, Ohakim accused Anyanwu of omitting the fact that she allegedly wrote a letter of apology to Abacha and the federal government in her book BOLD LEAP. He even threatened to release the letter to the public to expose her.
Responding, Anyanwu firmly denied writing any such letter to Abacha. She stated, “I don’t know anyone who wrote to Abacha. I don’t speak on matters I have no knowledge of. The thought of writing something so sinister never crossed my mind, not even under duress.”
She further challenged Ohakim to bring the alleged letter to court for verification, stating, “Let him produce the letter in court before forensic experts and the world. This is not just a local matter—this was a global story.”
Anyanwu also questioned the validity of Ohakim’s claims, saying, “How could such a letter remain hidden for so long, only to be brought up now? If this letter truly exists, then it should be tested for authenticity.”
She also responded to Ohakim’s accusations about her autobiography, clarifying that BOLD LEAP was about her life, not just the politics of Imo State. Anyanwu dismissed Ohakim’s allegations as a fabrication and urged him to read the entire book before making such baseless claims.
The former senator further criticized Ohakim for making up a story about a letter to Abacha, questioning his motives and credibility, especially given the turbulent political context of that time.
Anyanwu ended by suggesting that Ohakim must explain his relationship with the Abacha regime and how he came to possess such a letter, questioning whether his past actions truly aligned with his current position.
