Speaking to reporters in Abuja, Adebayo addressed the ongoing calls from the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) and the Trade Union Congress (TUC) for a raise in workers’ salaries, asserting that simply having more money in hand does not necessarily lead to an improved standard of living.

He emphasized the importance of focusing on the purchasing power of the currency rather than the nominal amount of money individuals possess.

“It’s not about the quantity of money one possesses, but rather what that money can afford you,” Adebayo stated, highlighting a fundamental principle of basic economics. “Merely having more money doesn’t guarantee prosperity.”

Adebayo further illustrated his point by comparing the purchasing power of individuals today with historical figures like Julius Caesar. He stressed that despite the substantial increase in wealth over time, what truly matters is the ability of currency to purchase goods and services, rather than the sheer amount of currency in circulation.

In essence, Adebayo advocated for a more nuanced approach to addressing economic challenges, emphasizing the importance of focusing on improving the value and purchasing power of the currency rather than simply increasing wages.
