INEC Reports Only Six Parties Submit Candidates’ Details For Edo Governorship Election

He outlined the timelines for the Edo and Ondo State governorship elections, emphasizing that parties have a window of 20 days, as per the election timetable, to upload their candidates’ details on the designated portal. Despite the provision of trained party liaison officers and a dedicated Help Desk, only six parties have complied thus far. Yakubu stressed the importance of adhering to the prescribed schedule to prevent last-minute disruptions.

Regarding the Ondo governorship election, Yakubu noted that 16 out of 19 political parties have expressed interest in participating. He urged parties to adhere strictly to their proposed timelines for primaries and comply with all guidelines. He emphasized the disruptive and costly nature of frequent changes, citing recent experiences during the Edo State primaries. Yakubu underscored the necessity for parties to maintain consistency in their primary schedules to ensure optimal resource allocation by the commission.
