Joe Igbokwe Warns Atiku: “You’ll Pay Dearly For Defying Power Rotation”
According to Ireporter Online, All Progressives Congress (APC) chieftain Joe Igbokwe has issued a stern warning to former Vice President and Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) presidential candidate, Atiku Abubakar, over his persistent ambition to contest for Nigeria’s presidency despite the ongoing power rotation understanding between the North and South.
Igbokwe, in a statement shared via his Facebook page on Wednesday, criticized Atiku’s repeated attempts at the presidency, describing them as a direct challenge to the principle of rotational leadership, which has long served as a balancing mechanism in Nigeria’s political structure.
He noted that Atiku’s decision to run in the 2023 election — despite widespread calls for power to shift to the South after former President Muhammadu Buhari’s eight-year tenure — deepened divisions within the PDP and destabilized the political harmony among key regional blocs.
Igbokwe further alleged that the former Vice President’s reported plan to contest again in 2027 against President Bola Tinubu amounts to a violation of the unwritten zoning arrangement, which, according to him, entitles the South to complete its own eight-year cycle.
He warned that Atiku’s continued defiance of this arrangement would come with dire political consequences, stressing that the PDP stalwart “may never become Nigeria’s president till the end of age.”
In his words, “Alhaji Atiku Abubakar will pay dearly for challenging the rotation of the Presidency between Northern and Southern Nigeria, even when he knows that Southern Nigeria is meant to rule for eight years. Going by political calculations, he may never have access to Aso Villa as President till the end of age. Nigerians should take mental note of this.”
