JUST IN: Former Edo Commissioner Declares Governorship Ambition, Rejects Zoning
Former Edo Commissioner, Kassim Afegbua, Declares Governorship Ambition, Rejects Zoning
Former Commissioner for Information in Edo State, Kassim Afegbua, has officially declared his intention to run for the governorship position under the All Progressives Congress (APC). Afegbua dismissed the idea of zoning in Edo State, emphasizing that the governorship seat has never been subject to zoning arrangements in the state.
According to Afegbua, the calls for zoning are misguided, and he pointed out that historical instances, including Adams Oshiomhole’s 2007 victory, indicate that governorship candidates from all three zones have consistently contested in primaries conducted by the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) or APC without zoning considerations.
Highlighting the disorientation caused by internal political conflicts and the need for attention to decaying infrastructure in the state, Afegbua asserted that Edo is at a crucial point requiring effective leadership. He criticized unnecessary squabbles among leaders in the ruling party and expressed his determination to offer his services to address the challenges faced by the people.
Afegbua emphasized road infrastructure as a top priority, recognizing its significance in enhancing mobility, supporting farmers, and fostering economic activities. He underscored the importance of efficient road networks for transporting farm produce to meet high demand in urban areas.
In his vision for Edo, Afegbua pledged to make a significant impact and redefine governance for the benefit of the people. He called for the end of the era of lamentation, expressing his commitment to lead Edo to a state of prosperity, economic strength, stability, and pride.
As he declared his ambition, Afegbua presented himself as a candidate determined to bring positive change and restore Edo to its deserved status among Nigerian states.
