The establishment of this fact-finding committee comes amidst reported tensions between El-Rufai and his successor, Governor Uba Sani, particularly concerning the revelation of significant debts accrued by the state.
Convened during a plenary session at the Lord Lugard Legislative Complex in Kaduna, the legislative panel’s mandate extends to investigating El-Rufai’s close associate and senior investment advisor, Jimi Lawal.
The committee, tasked with examining financial dealings, loans, grants, and project implementations spanning from 2015 to 2023, is empowered to summon key figures such as former speakers of the 8th and 9th Assembly, finance commissioners, former managing directors of Kaduna markets, and commissioners of budget and planning, among others.
This move underscores a concerted effort by the Kaduna State Assembly to ensure transparency and accountability in governance, particularly concerning financial management and project execution during El-Rufai’s administration.
