Kano Government Declares Salary Boost for Academic and Non-Academic Staff
The Kano State Government has approved a salary increase for both academic and non-academic staff at tertiary institutions within the state. The increase, which will take effect from March 2025, is as follows:
Academic staff will receive a 25% salary increase.
Non-academic staff will benefit from a 35% salary increase.
The decision was made during a State Executive Council meeting, and the Commissioner for Information, Comrade Abdullahi Waiya, emphasized that the increase is part of the government’s efforts to improve worker welfare and strengthen the education sector under the State of Emergency on Education policy.
In addition to the salary adjustments, the council also approved N3.4 billion for various developmental projects, including:
N612.4 million for upgrading electrical systems at Government House.
N148.9 million for road maintenance at the Kano State School of Technology.
N662 million for student feeding in boarding schools.
N348 million to settle outstanding energy bills with the Kano Electricity Distribution Company (KEDCO).
The council also approved allocations for social development initiatives, including the reopening of the Kiru Reformatory Institute to rehabilitate troubled youths and the creation of a Department for People with Disabilities.
