administration left behind an outstanding sum of over N48 billion, causing immense hardship for pensioners.
In a statement released by his spokesperson, Sanusi Bature Dawakin-Tofa, Yusuf expressed sympathy for retirees who endured prolonged waits for their entitlements, with many losing their lives in the process.
“This failure by Ganduje’s government is the largest social security crisis Kano has ever faced since its creation in 1967,” Yusuf said.
To address this, Governor Yusuf has launched the third tranche of a N5 billion payment to retirees, part of his campaign promise to ease the suffering of those who served the state. Over 6,886 retirees are expected to benefit from this initiative, with payments made directly into their bank accounts to avoid past irregularities.
Additionally, Yusuf announced an increase in the minimum pension award from N5,000 to N20,000, reflecting the impact of inflation on the purchasing power of retirees.
The President of the Nigerian Union of Teachers, Titus Audu Amba, commended the governor’s dedication to alleviating the burden of gratuities, emphasizing that this initiative will not only uplift the lives of beneficiaries but also enhance the broader economic landscape of Kano.
