Kano Hisbah Seizes 8,600 Beer Bottles, Detains 15 For Prostitution

According to Idris Ibrahim, the board’s official responsible for intoxicants, the seizure occurred last Thursday at Kwanar Dangora village along the Kano-Kaduna expressway.

Ibrahim revealed that the Hisbah operatives had been monitoring the vehicle’s movements from Kaduna until it entered Kano territory, where it was intercepted.

“We intercepted the vehicle at Kwanar Dangora village, and although the driver attempted to flee, our operatives apprehended him,” Ibrahim stated.

He reiterated that the sale and consumption of beer are prohibited in Kano State, and as such, the driver will be taken to court after his statement is taken.

Furthermore, the Hisbah team apprehended 15 young women for engaging in prostitution during operations conducted in various parts of Kano City.

The arrests occurred at Hotoro Tishama, Bakin River Verd Sabon Gari, Miyangu Road, Hadejia Road, and old Zoo Road motor parks.

Dr. Mujahid Aminuddeen, the board’s Deputy Commander-General, confirmed the arrests, noting that some of the apprehended women had been previously charged to court for similar offenses but persisted in their illegal activities.

Aminuddeen expressed concern over the influx of women engaging in prostitution in Kano, emphasizing the need for public cooperation in reporting such activities to help sanitize the state.

He also acknowledged that while some of the apprehended women engage in prostitution due to economic hardships, others require spiritual guidance and support to exit such circumstances.
