Kebbi Governor Creates New District, Village Headship

Kebbi State Governor Nasir Idris has approved the creation of a new district comprising eight village areas in Dandi Local Government Area as part of efforts to strengthen traditional administration and improve grassroots governance.

According to Ireporter Online, the approval was announced on Thursday in Birnin Kebbi by the Commissioner for Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs, Garba Umar Dutsinmari.

The newly established Buma District was carved out of the existing Dolekaina District in Dandi Local Government Area, with Alhaji Salisu Hakimi appointed as its district head.

The commissioner disclosed that the new district comprises eight Village Areas, namely Tunga Rafi, Gamana, Tudunsan, Gillare, Bump Town, Goraro, Bukki and Alfarma Kwara.

Dutsinmari explained that the creation of the district was aimed at strengthening the traditional institution and bringing governance closer to residents at the grassroots.

Governor Idris also approved the appointment of Nasiru Umar Maizabo as the Village Head of Marafan Garin Haruna in Tiggi District, Augie Local Government Area.

According to the commissioner, the appointments were made in accordance with the Kebbi State Local Government Law, 2008, particularly Section 10, Subsections (A) and (B), which provide for the creation of districts and appointment of district heads.

Dutsinmari urged the newly appointed traditional rulers to discharge their responsibilities with discipline, honesty, transparency and dedication.

He explained that the appointments were based on the candidates’ records and previous contributions, assuring them of the state government’s support and cooperation in carrying out their duties.

The development is expected to strengthen traditional leadership structures while improving administrative coordination and bringing government closer to communities across the affected areas.
