Kendrick Lamar Denounces The Title “The Greatest”

Kendrick Lamar has stopped claiming his superiority nine years after his thunderous “Control” rap made the declaration. The “Humble” MC in an interview, discusses the value of humility and why he no longer needs to be referred to as “the greatest.”

“Now, I’m dropping the ego a bit. I want to take ‘the greatest’ off of it,” the 35-year-old tells the magazine. “I want to give people something they can hold onto. So whether it touches 100 million people or inspires one, I want to be that person.”

On the song “Saviour” from his most recent album Mr. Morale & the Big Steppers, he made a similar point, rapping, “Kendrick made you think about it / But he is not your saviour.”

The father of two attributes his new outlook on life to his daughter, age 3, and son, age 1. “I now have children. I want them to be able to experience things outside of what they already know and see things that I wasn’t allowed to see,” he says.

In the conversation, Kendrick also discusses his current approach to dealing with stardom. He says, “If I feel like I have to remove myself, I just remove myself.” “I’m not going to whine about it. I’m not going to make a big deal out of it or tell everyone that the walls are closing in.

The recluse rapper acknowledges he lacks social media knowledge. To be really honest with you, I don’t really know how to utilise it like that, he admits. “My team, friends, and family have sent me items, so I have positive feelings about what’s happening,”

The “Big Steppers Tour,” which Kendrick previously dubbed “the best show alive,” is presently underway. Next month, the North American leg will come to an end before continuing to Europe and Australia.
