Keyamo Orders Investigation As Private Jet Lands On Construction Road, Flees Illegally
According to Ireporter Online, the Minister of Aviation and Aerospace Development, Festus Keyamo, has condemned the emergency landing of a private aircraft on a concrete road under construction, describing the incident as a serious violation of aviation safety standards and national security procedures. The aircraft reportedly missed its approach while attempting to land at Asaba Airport at about 7:43 a.m. local time and subsequently came down on a concrete road in the Ogwashi-Uku area near Asaba. The minister confirmed that all four crew members on board safely exited the aircraft without injuries and were later conveyed by road to Asaba.
Keyamo further disclosed that although the situation initially appeared contained, the aircraft later departed the unauthorized landing site and flew back to Lagos without obtaining clearance from aviation authorities. He noted that Air Traffic Control was only informed after the aircraft had already become airborne, stressing that the takeoff occurred without regulatory approval. The Nigerian Civil Aviation Authority (NCAA) has since grounded the aircraft upon its arrival in Lagos and launched a full-scale investigation into the incident. The regulator also placed the operation under strict review to determine the circumstances surrounding both the emergency landing and the subsequent unauthorized departure. In addition, the NCAA has suspended the operator’s Permit for Non-Commercial Flight and is reviewing all operational, maintenance, and airworthiness records in line with aviation regulations. Keyamo added that security agencies have been involved, confirming that the crew members are currently in custody and assisting with ongoing investigations.
