Kwara Governor: Council Of State Backs Tinubu With Confidence Vote

The National Council of State has reiterated that any change in government in Nigeria must adhere strictly to constitutional procedures, dismissing calls from some protesters for the resignation of President Bola Tinubu.

The council also passed a vote of confidence in the President, commending his achievements since assuming office last year.

The council’s stance comes in response to the recent #EndBadGovernance protests, where certain groups demanded the President’s resignation.

In a meeting held on Tuesday, the council expressed disapproval of these calls and emphasized the importance of upholding constitutional governance in the country.

The meeting was attended by key national figures, including former Presidents Goodluck Jonathan and Muhammadu Buhari, who were present physically, while former Heads of State Generals Yakubu Gowon and Abdulsalami Abubakar joined virtually.

Other attendees included state governors, deputy governors, ministers, former Chief Justices of the Federation, the Secretary to the Government of the Federation, and the National Security Adviser.

Speaking to State House correspondents after the meeting, Governor Abdulrahman Abdulrasaq of Kwara State highlighted the council’s commendation of President Tinubu’s policy decisions over the past year.

“The Council commended the President for the policy decisions he has taken since assuming office,” Abdulrasaq said.

In a separate executive meeting between the governors and President Tinubu, the governors also passed a vote of confidence in the President, further solidifying their support for his administration.

During the meeting, the council received a report from the National Security Adviser, Nuhu Ribadu, on the current security situation in the country, along with a preliminary report on the recent protests.

The council expressed concern that the protests were viewed as a disguised attempt to disrupt the activities of the current administration.

Minister of Solid Minerals, Dele Alake, who joined Governor Abdulrasaq in briefing the press, emphasized the council’s appreciation for Nigerians who have resisted any unconstitutional move to change the government.

“The council thanked Nigerians at large for resisting any unconstitutional move to change government,” Alake stated.
