Labour Party Convenes NEC Meeting To Ratify Primary Results
According to Ireporter Online, the Labour Party (LP) has scheduled its National Executive Committee (NEC) meeting for June 11, where it will formally ratify the outcomes of its recently concluded primary elections and approve the submission of its candidates for the 2027 general elections to the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).
The decision was contained in a statement issued on Thursday by the party’s National Publicity Secretary, Ken Asogwa, who explained that the NEC meeting is being convened in line with Article 28 of the party’s 2026 Constitution.
He noted that the gathering will bring together statutory NEC members, candidates who emerged from the primaries, representatives of party organs, officials of INEC, members of the media, and other relevant stakeholders.
According to him, the primary objective of the meeting is to formally ratify the results of the party’s nationwide primary elections and endorse the list of candidates for submission to INEC in compliance with the Electoral Act and the party’s constitution.
Asogwa further disclosed that Certificates of Return will be issued to successful candidates immediately after NEC approval of the primary results, covering key positions including President, Governors, Senate, and House of Representatives.
He described the upcoming NEC meeting as a significant milestone in the Labour Party’s preparation for the 2027 general elections, noting that it is the first NEC session following the party’s recent national convention and the emergence of its flagbearers.
He added that the meeting is crucial to strengthening internal mobilisation and consolidating the party’s electoral strategy ahead of the general polls.
