Labour Party Sanctions Chairman (SEE WHY)

Labour Party LP

Leadership of the Labour Party (LP) in Kaduna State has wielded the big stick on the Chairman, Peter Hassan, just as it accused the national body of the party of meddling in the affairs of the state chapter.

Officials of LP met at the weekend to look into some of the issues in the party to find lasting solutions.

Secretary of LP in Kaduna, John Buayin, stated yesterday: “The meeting had in attendance 90 per cent of the state executives to strategise on the way forward for the overall interest of the party in Kaduna State, especially now that the 2023 general election is at hand.

“During the meeting, the State Working Committee (SWC) expressed dismay over the conduct of Hassan, who was nominated as the Chairman of LP in Kaduna. The state exco also accused the national exco of interfering in the affairs of the state and imposing Hassan on the people.”

Buayin further expressed disappointment over Hassan’s “inability to carry everybody along since he emerged as chairman of the party,” accusing him of hijacking the party and sidelining almost all the exco members.

The leadership further accused embattled chairman of absconding with delegates’ money during the convention and creating a faction, which is detrimental to the growth of the party.

His words: “We, therefore, arrived at some resolutions for the interest of the party, including passing a no confidence vote in the nominated chairman, Hassan, for failing to answer the questions on the allegations levelled against him at the meeting.”

“All the local council chairmen and the state exco signed for the suspension of Hassan and adopted the former exco, recognised by the Independent National Electoral Committee (INEC), to continue till a new congress is conducted in a short period.”

Meanwhile, Buayin has directed the INEC-recognised chairman of the party, Dahiru Bako, to take charge of affairs in acting capacity, while urging all party faithful to be strong in the movement, as LP is on the verge of winning the general elections.

Kaduna LP also threatened court action if the national body tries to forcefully remove the acting chairman and his exco or bring back “Hassan, who never participated in a valid congress.”
