Lagos Assembly Advances Leadership Legacy: Lateef Jakande Academy Bill Passes Second Reading
Lagos State House of Assembly has moved one step closer to honoring the legacy of one of Nigeria’s most revered leaders, Lateef Jakande. The assembly has successfully passed the second reading of the Lateef Jakande Leadership Academy Bill, a significant milestone in its legislative journey.
The bill, which aims to establish the Lateef Jakande Leadership Academy, seeks to create a platform for nurturing and empowering future leaders in Lagos State. Named after the former governor of Lagos State, the academy is envisioned as a training ground for young Nigerians, providing them with the necessary skills and knowledge to lead with integrity and vision.
During the deliberations, members of the Lagos Assembly underscored the importance of the academy in continuing Jakande’s legacy of selfless service and visionary leadership. They highlighted how the academy would serve as a tribute to Jakande’s contributions to the development of Lagos and his enduring impact on the nation as a whole.
The bill’s passage through the second reading marks a critical step toward its eventual enactment. Once fully established, the Lateef Jakande Leadership Academy is expected to become a cornerstone for leadership development in Lagos, reflecting the principles and values that Jakande championed throughout his life.
As the bill moves forward, it continues to garner widespread support from both lawmakers and the general public, who see it as a fitting homage to a leader whose influence remains deeply felt in Lagos and beyond. The academy is anticipated to produce a new generation of leaders equipped to tackle the challenges of the future, ensuring that Jakande’s legacy lives on through their actions and decisions.
The Lateef Jakande Leadership Academy Bill is now set to proceed to the committee stage, where further discussions and refinements will be made before it is presented for a third reading and final approval.
