Lagos-Based Crypto Enthusiast Urges Release Of Detained Binance Executives
A Lagos-based advocate for cryptocurrency technology, Bright Johnson, has criticized the federal government’s detention of two Binance officials, warning that such actions could undermine Nigeria’s economic growth prospects…..READ ALSO Nigerian Man Reportedly Takes His Own Life Following Losses In Cryptocurrency Investment
Johnson argued that targeting crypto exchanges like Binance as scapegoats for economic challenges such as the devaluation of the naira and high inflation rates is misguided and could have adverse consequences for the country’s economic interests.
He emphasized that Nigeria’s appeal as Africa’s largest economy should be leveraged positively, rather than engaging in actions that deter investment and create an adversarial climate in the crypto sector.
Johnson stressed the importance of constructive dialogue and sensible regulations to ensure transparency, accountability, and oversight in the crypto sector, while maximizing economic benefits and preserving Nigeria’s status as an innovation hub.
He cautioned against an enforcement-led approach, advocating instead for a collaborative conversation with crypto exchanges to address legitimate concerns and foster compliance with regulatory standards.
Johnson urged the Nigerian government to release the detained Binance staff and adopt a collaborative approach to crypto regulation that reflects Nigeria’s regional economic power and influence. He emphasized that cooperation, rather than coercion, is key to achieving effective crypto policies and sustainable economic growth.
