Lagos Cracks Down, Shuts 20 Ikeja Buildings For Planning Infractions

The enforcement exercise was carried out by the Lagos State Physical Planning Permit Authority (LASPPPA), led by the Permanent Secretary of the Office of Physical Planning, Tpl. Olayinka Wasiu, alongside the General Manager of LASPPPA, Tpl. Kehinde Osinaike, and other senior officials of the agency.

Authorities disclosed that the operation forms part of ongoing efforts to strengthen compliance with the Lagos State Physical Planning Law and ensure orderly urban development across the state.

The affected properties include vacant plots, uncompleted buildings and structures with unauthorised extensions, all of which were found to be in breach of existing planning regulations.

Speaking during the exercise, Wasiu explained that the enforcement action was designed to prevent incidents of building collapse, promote proper physical development and ensure strict adherence to the state’s planning laws.

He reaffirmed the government’s commitment to protecting lives and property through the enforcement of regulations aimed at creating a safe, resilient and sustainable built environment for residents.

The permanent secretary also revealed that owners of the affected properties had previously been served contravention notices, outlining the steps required to regularise their developments before the authorities resorted to sealing the buildings.

He advised property owners and developers to obtain the necessary planning permits and official approvals before commencing any construction work or making structural modifications, stressing that compliance remains essential for sustainable urban growth.

Wasiu further assured residents that the Ministry of Physical Planning and Urban Development, through LASPPPA, would continue to intensify monitoring and enforcement operations across Lagos State to curb illegal developments and preserve the integrity of the state’s built environment.
